Crossroads Campaign

Ron and Tracy YoungOn November 11, 2006 we lost our daughter, Michelle, because of domestic violence. The sudden loss and ongoing sadness can be overwhelming at times.

We knew immediately after losing Michelle that we wanted to let others know of the potential dangers when domestic violence signs are present. The care, support, friendship and education we received from Crossroads Safehouse was truly a blessing. Through our association with Crossroads, we feel like we will be able to help prevent another family from suffering the devastating loss of losing a child to domestic violence. We know how desperately the community needs additional room to provide a refuge for the increasing number of victims. Crossroads is truly a blessing to our community and provides a safe haven for women and children suffering from abuse, giving them shelter, guidance, stability, counseling and love, while helping them become self-supporting, self-sufficient members of our community

With domestic violence in our community on the rise, and the current facility at maximum occupancy, we want to make every effort to support the new building so that everyone who asks for help will be able to receive it.

Bill and Alesa LocklearCan you imagine a life of constant fear? Waking up every day dreading the violence the day may bring? We have volunteered with Crossroads Safehouse for years and have talked with many survivors of domestic violence from our community. They talk about the thoughts that go through their head: “Who will be the target today? Please God, don’t let it be the kids. Will it be a black eye, broken bones, or another rape? Could it be worse? Is today the day he carries out the threat to kill us all?”

Most of us can’t imagine this level of fear—it’s not part of our life experience—but it is very real for far too many people.

These frightened families come to Crossroads for safety and refuge, but, unfortunately, there is not enough capacity at the Safehouse to help them all. Crossroads did not have Safehouse rooms for 24% of those seeking shelter in 2009, even though they limit the Safehouse to women and children in “imminent” danger.

There is an answer.

Columbine Health System has donated a former nursing home to Crossroads. A Capital Campaign is currently underway to remodel this building. When completed, this new Safehouse will have the capacity to meet current needs and provide the necessary rooms for many years into the future. The new facility maximizes efficiency of operations yet minimizes utilities and environmental impact. The new Crossroads Safehouse will allow the agency to help all of those seeking shelter without significantly increasing their operating expenses, a true win-win situation.

We need your help to make the new Safehouse a reality. Please join us in supporting the Crossroads Capital Campaign. Together we can change lives. Fear can become hope.
